Activity Overview
HER2-positive gastroesophageal adenocarcinomas (GEAs) have traditionally been associated with limited treatment options and poor prognosis. In the setting of metastatic disease, the introduction of HER2-directed therapy and immunotherapy has led to a dramatic improvement in outcomes for patients. However, appropriate use of these agents requires careful assessment of potentially actionable molecular targets along the treatment continuum, and this necessitates coordination with the molecular pathology team to ensure appropriate tissue stewardship and interpretation of test reports.
In this first of two podcasts focused on HER2-positive advanced or metastatic GEAs, Rohit Gosain, MD; and Rahul Gosain, MD discuss the current treatment landscape, as well as key decision points related to biomarker testing.
Target Audience
This educational program is primarily directed toward medical oncologists, molecular pathologists, radiologists, gastroenterologists, advanced practice providers, and nurses who are involved in the management of patients with advanced or metastatic gastroesophageal adenocarcinomas (GEA).
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
- Apply best practices for HER2 biomarker testing in patients with GEA to guide timely, individualized treatment decisions
- Incorporate the latest evidence on HER2-directed therapies into individualized treatment plans for patients with advanced GEA
