Overview:

Ig A nephropathy (IgAN) is a common cause of chronic kidney disease with an overall incidence of at least 2.5 per 100,000. It occurs more frequently in males than females and usually affects 16 to 35 year olds, reaching end-stage kidney disease after 20 years from the biopsy-proven diagnosis. IgA nephropathy can have severe and lasting impacts on affected individuals. Diagnosis has been associated with a reduction in life expectancy between 6 and 10 years and it has been associated with poor socioeconomic situations.

The purpose of this live symposium is to examine new therapeutic targets for IgAN, based on new insights into the mechanisms underpinning the pathogenesis of this disease, resulting in new and emerging therapies. Goals of treatment for patients with IgAN include the induction of clinical remission, reduction in proteinuria and hematuria, stabilization of renal parameters, decreasing the rate of progression, and preventing the need for renal replacement therapy.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Assess recent efficacy and safety trial data on new and emerging treatment for IgAN
  • Summarize guideline recommendations for the management of IgAN
  • Formulate individualized treatment plans for patients with IgAN

Benefits of Attending:

  • Improved understanding of advances in the pathogenesis of IgAN
  • Explore the new and emerging therapeutic targets for IgAN
  • Review the development of individualized plans

Hot Topics:

  • Review of guideline recommendations for patients with IgA nephropathy
  • Discussion of novel therapies and prognostic tools for IgAN
  • Exploration of non-invasive testing and approaches toward assessing effectiveness of therapy
