Overview:
Activation of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway has emerged as a central driver of resistance, with pathway alterations or overactivation identified in approximately half of patients with HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer. The expanding availability of PI3K, AKT, and PTEN-targeted therapies offers new opportunities—but also introduces complexity.
This engaging, fast-paced, and interactive Hot Seat program
will equip oncologists with a practical, evidence-based framework for
integrating pathway-targeted therapies into clinical practice. Faculty will
examine the latest clinical trial data, compare distinct toxicity profiles, and
discuss optimal sequencing strategies and patient selection in the context of
evolving treatment paradigms. Through case-based discussion and expert insight,
participants will gain clarity and confidence in personalizing care for
patients with advanced HR+/HER2- breast cancer.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the rationale for targeting the PI3K/AKT/PTEN signaling pathway in the treatment of HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer (mBC)
- Apply best practices for molecular testing to identify actionable PI3K/AKT/PTEN pathway alterations in patients with HR+/HER2- mBC
- Integrate recent clinical trial evidence into the selection and sequencing of PI3K/AKT/PTEN pathway inhibitors for patients with HR+/HER2- mBC
- Implement evidence-based strategies to prevent, recognize, and manage adverse events associated with PI3K/AKT/PTEN pathway inhibitors
Target Audience:
This educational activity is directed toward medical
oncologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, pathologists, pharmacists,
and other HCPs involved in the management of metastatic breast cancer.
