Activity Overview
Food allergy is a potentially life-threatening condition that can adversely affect the well-being of those who have it. Most symptoms (eg, hives, itching, tingling of the lips) occur within 2 hours of allergen ingestion—and often within minutes. In some cases, such as food-dependent or exercise-induced anaphylaxis, there is a temporal relationship between food consumption and exercise. Despite the risk of severe reactions, including death, no treatment exists at present. Food allergy is managed by avoiding the triggers and treating the symptoms.
In this online, on-demand activity, a panel of expert faculty discuss the epidemiology of food allergy, its current management, and new and emerging immunotherapies for the disorder.
