Overview:
The pathogenesis of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is not fully understood, but genetics, immune dysregulation, the cutaneous microbiome, and hormonal fluctuations are thought to play a significant role. The clear result is a vicious cycle of local tissue destruction, pain, purulence, and scarring.
In this program, featuring animations of HS pathophysiology, clinicians will gain expert insight into targetable factors involved in HS that will prepare them to better diagnose HS and utilize therapies in an evolving treatment landscape.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the pathogenic events involved in the development of hidradenitis suppurativa, including the interactive role of inflammation and the cutaneous microbiome
- Interpret clinical findings in support of a diagnosis of hidradenitis suppurativa
- Evaluate the potential of emerging therapies to address unmet needs in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa based on knowledge of pathophysiological disease mechanisms and therapeutic drug targets
