Activity Overview

HER2-positive gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma demands precise, sequential decision-making—from complete molecular profiling at diagnosis through first-line selection, progression, rebiopsy, and later-line therapy. Persistent gaps include incomplete biomarker testing at baseline, selecting among evolving first-line regimens, recognizing and managing treatment-related diarrhea early enough to preserve dose intensity, identifying drug-related interstitial lung disease (ILD) promptly and initiating appropriate therapy, and communicating complex plans in language patients can act on. This SimulatED™ online, on-demand program follows a single patient case through physician-patient dialogues, interactive patient interviews, multiple-choice decision points, and expert commentary to translate evidence into practice. Learners confirm the molecular profile and select first-line therapy; recognize and manage grade 2 diarrhea; respond to disease progression with rebiopsy and second-line selection; manage treatment-related ILD; and choose third-line therapy. Immediate expert feedback at each decision point, paired with modeled teach-back and shared decision-making, builds both clinical judgment and communication skills.

Target Audience

This educational program is primarily directed toward medical oncologists, molecular pathologists, radiologists, gastroenterologists, advanced practice providers, and nurses who are involved in the treatment of patients with advanced or metastatic gastroesophageal cancers (GEAs).

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:

  • Apply best practices for HER2 biomarker testing in patients with GEA to guide timely, individualized treatment decisions
  • Incorporate the latest evidence on HER2-directed therapies into individualized treatment plans for patients with advanced GEA
  • Implement strategies to mitigate and manage AEs associated with HER2-targeted therapy
  • Enhance coordination among oncology care teams to support informed decision-making, treatment access, and patient engagement when managing HER2+ GEA
