Activity Overview
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a continually increasing health problem on a global scale. Fortunately, clinical outcomes have improved over the years, namely through the development of disease-modifying therapies, curative approaches, and improvements in supportive care.
This activity provides clinicians with different perspectives on therapeutic strategies for patients with SCD, including disease modifying therapy and curative therapy and the relative risks and benefits of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and gene therapy. Through education, clinicians will be better placed to help improve outcomes and quality of life for their patients with SCD.
Target Audience
This activity is directed towards hematologists. Primary care providers, specialty NPs, PAs, RNs, and other providers involved in the sickle cell disease care team may also find it useful.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
- Evaluate clinical trial data for approved therapies in SCD
- Review factors that impact treatment selection for patients with SCD
- Design individualized multidisciplinary care plans for patients with SCD
