Activity Overview

Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), and retinal vein occlusion (RVO) impose substantial burdens at both the patient and societal level. Intravitreal anti-VEGF injections are the standard of care, but poor adherence and high treatment burden with earlier options have led to the development of newer agents with the potential for longer treatment intervals. In this first episode of a 6-part series, an expert faculty member shares insights into the use of these newer therapies for the management of patients with nAMD.

Target Audience

This educational curriculum is directed toward retina specialists and ophthalmologists.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:

  • Describe the rationale for durable, next-generation anti-VEGF therapy as a first-line or switch strategy in nAMD
  • Apply a treat-and-extend algorithm incorporating OCT-based fluid assessment and interval adjustment criteria
  • Identify patients with nAMD who are most likely to benefit from next-generation anti-VEGF based on clinical and anatomic characteristics
