Overview:
Traditional treatments for acute pain, such as NSAIDS and opioids, are often inadequate and associated with significant risks. In recent years, the role of sodium channels in the pathophysiology of acute pain has been elucidated. As such, therapies that abrogate the functionality of sodium channels have been approved or are being studied in acute pain.
In this program, expert faculty will review the role of sodium channels in the pathophysiology of acute pain, the current standard of care, and new and emerging therapies for the treatment of acute pain. In addition, this program will include insights from an real patient regarding the effects of acute pain on the quality of life.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify the impact on quality of life (QoL) often caused by acute pain
- Implement guideline-directed therapy for the management of patients with acute pain
- Evaluate the latest trial findings pertaining to new and emerging therapies for acute pain treatment
