Overview:
Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by low platelet count and increased bleeding risk. Diagnosis is challenging, often requiring exclusion of other causes of thrombocytopenia. ITP significantly impacts quality of life and requires careful treatment planning. Several new therapies have been approved by the US FDA, but optimal sequencing is unclear. Ongoing research is investigating novel therapies, creating practice gaps. Clinicians need to accurately diagnose ITP, determine treatment benefits, and tailor therapy while minimizing toxicity. Educational programs focusing on these aspects are crucial.This satellite symposium will use an interactive Medical Crossfire format, where experts lead case-based panel discussions on the latest clinical advances in treating and managing patients with ITP. The symposium aims to discuss new data within the context of current treatment paradigms. The program will feature an interactive question-and-answer session between faculty and attendees to emphasize educational needs, highlight areas of debate, and illustrate the application of new data in clinical practice.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Characterize the clinical burden of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and the impact it has on patients’ quality of life
- Assess recent clinical trial data evaluating current and emerging therapies for the management of ITP in the frontline and subsequent settings
- Determine effective strategies to monitor for and mitigate treatment-related toxicities for patients with ITP
- Develop individualized treatment plans for patients with ITP based on current evidence, expert recommendations, and patient preferences
This activity is intended for medical oncologists, hematologist/oncologists, and other physicians who manage patients with cancer, and/or rare blood disorders.
