Activity Overview
Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) are a heterogeneous group of rare autoimmune disorders in which diagnosis and management can be uniquely challenging, as these conditions affect multiple organ systems and often coexist with other overlapping diseases. Treatment still largely rests on traditional immunosuppression tailored to disease subtype and severity, with no standardized guidelines to guide those decisions.
In this archived video from the 2026 Carolina Neuromuscular Disease Summit, expert faculty will highlight individualized, multidisciplinary management planning for patients with IIMs. Patient cases anchor the discussion and show where the current standard of care falls short, which segues into a review of emerging clinical trial data on investigational therapies and how these strategies may fit into future treatment protocols.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for neuromuscular specialists, neurologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses who treat neuromuscular diseases.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
- Design individualized multidisciplinary management plans for IIMs and their associated comorbidities
- Review the limitations of the current treatment landscape for IIMs
- Evaluate clinical trial data for emerging therapies for IIMs
