Overview:
Use of innovative monitoring technologies elevate modern diabetes care. Data support that continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) not only results in reduced HbA1c levels— 0.3–0.6% on average—but also improves time in range; detection and reduction of hypoglycemia; and treatment satisfaction and diabetes-related distress. As such current professional guidelines, including those from the American Diabetes Association recommend CGM for most individuals with type 1 diabetes and for many with type 2 diabetes using insulin. Additionally, continuous ketone monitoring (CKM) has proven advantages and commercially available are being developed and may soon be FDA-cleared.
This will be a dynamic
educational symposium focused on the state of the art in technology-driven
diabetes monitoring. It will explore the latest advances in continuous glucose
monitoring (CGM) and ketone monitoring, highlighting how these tools are
reshaping clinical decision-making and day-to-day diabetes management. Expert
faculty—recognized clinician–researchers in the field—will present the current
state of the science, translate emerging evidence into practical strategies,
and share real-world insights to support optimal patient outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Explain the distinguishing features between currently available continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems
- Incorporate CGM into the management of adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in the absence or presence of insulin use
- Discuss integrated diabetes technologies to support individualized diabetes management across varying therapeutic intensities
- Summarize the emerging role of continuous ketone monitoring (CKM) and combined glucose–ketone monitoring (CGKM) systems in preventing diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and enhancing safety for patients with diabetes
Target Audience:
This activity is directed toward internal medicine, primary
care, and family medicine physicians as well as nurse practitioners, physician
assistants, and registered nurses. Other health care providers who care for
patients with diabetes are also invited to participate.
