Activity Overview
The use of targeted therapy for patients with breast cancer harboring germline BRCA1/2 mutations has allowed for the precise tailoring of treatment that can improve outcomes. However, appropriate use of these agents requires that all patients undergo appropriate molecular testing and that each member of the multidisciplinary team understands how to interpret and act on these testing results.
This symposium is designed to bring participants up to date on the latest principles for germline BRCA testing and optimal incorporation of PARP inhibitors into the standard of care. These updates are given as presentations focused on the latest data and recommendations for timing and interpretation of testing results. Furthermore, practical considerations related to multidisciplinary treatment, genetic counseling, and the use of PARP inhibition in the context of treatment with curative intent will be discussed.
This educational activity is an archive of the live virtual symposium held at the 43rd Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference® on March 6, 2026.
Target Audience
This educational activity is directed toward surgical oncologists, advanced practice professionals, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care practitioners who manage patients with breast cancer.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
- Describe the broadened criteria and clinical rationale for gBRCA testing beyond familial risk in breast cancer management
- Formulate appropriate treatment strategies based on accurate interpretation of genetic test results and consideration of patient-specific factors, including genetic status and clinical history
- Implement current guideline recommendations effectively for pre- and post-genetic test counseling, informed consent, and multidisciplinary collaboration in breast cancer treatment
