Activity Overview
Neovascular AMD (nAMD) can lead to rapid vision loss, arising from fragile, new blood vessels originating in the choroid and growing into the subretinal space, Bruch’s membrane, or the subretinal pigment epithelial (RPE) space. A variety of pathophysiologic changes serve as risk factors for the development of late AMD, which in the dry form is referred to as geographic atrophy (GA), featuring patches of RPE cell dropout that can cause severe vision loss when the fovea is involved. Agents that slow GA progression – avacincaptad pegol and pegcetacoplan – are now approved.
This online educational activity is designed to provide expert perspectives of new and emerging data from clinical trials in patients with GA, with a focus on reviewing the safety data from recent clinical trials and how to apply this data in practice. The program includes a case-based approach to highlight the key messages shared by the expert faculty.
Target Audience
This educational activity is directed primarily toward retinal specialists, comprehensive ophthalmologists, and optometrists involved in the management of patients with geographic atrophy (GA).
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
- Apply best practices in addressing patient concerns in the management of GA through appropriate treatment and/or referral strategies
- Outline current evidence regarding adverse clinical events related to treatment of GA
