Overview:

An increased understanding of the molecular underpinnings of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) has reshaped how the disease is classified and risk stratified, and new therapies are changing how it is treated. In lower-risk MDS (LR-MDS), general therapeutics as well as targeted options for molecularly selected patients have moved the goals of care beyond symptom control toward disease modification, raising new questions about treatment selection and sequencing. In higher-risk MDS (HR-MDS), allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation remains the only potentially curative approach and hypomethylating agent monotherapy remains the standard of care after several phase 3 trials of HMA-based combinations, did not improve overall survival, leaving clinicians to interpret a growing body of early-phase data for novel agents.

This CME-certified Cases and Conversations™ live virtual webcast, held during the 2026 American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting in New Orleans, will bring together expert faculty to translate the latest evidence into practical, case-based guidance across the MDS risk spectrum. Through short didactic presentations, panel discussions of challenging patient cases, and audience polling and Q&A, the program will cover updated classification and risk stratification, individualized treatment of LR-MDS and HR-MDS, management of treatment-related adverse events, and emerging therapies under investigation, including key data presented at ASH 2026.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be better able to:

  • Establish an accurate diagnosis and risk stratification for patients with MDS to guide treatment planning
  • Evaluate recent data and ongoing trials of new and emerging therapies for patients with LR-MDS or HR-MDS
  • Develop an individualized treatment plan for patients with LR-MDS or HR-MDS based on disease-related, patient-related, and treatment-related factors
  • Proactively monitor, mitigate, and manage adverse events associated with newer therapies for MDS

            Target Audience:

This educational activity is directed toward physicians, nurses, NP/PAs, pharmacists, and other HCPs involved in the diagnosis and treatment of MDS.
