Activity Overview

This online educational activity is designed to provide expert interpretation of new and emerging data on the treatment of heart failure (HF) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), with a forward-looking perspective on how new and novel agents might affect clinical practice. The essentials of HF and CKD disease classification, clinical trial data, and current and emerging treatment strategies will be reviewed.

Target Audience

This educational activity is directed toward cardiologists, nephrologists, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care professionals involved in the management of edema in patients with CKD and HF.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:

• State the rationale for early diagnosis of CKD and initiation of therapy to minimize disease progression
• Describe a physiologic approach to targeting fluid overload in CKD using therapies to inhibit RAAS activation as well as conventional and novel diuretics
