Overview:
ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a collective term that applies to 3 main disorders—granulomatosis with polyangiitis microscopic polyangiitis, and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis. In recent years, there has been an increasing number of patients receiving these diagnoses, predominantly occurring in the 6th and 7th decades of life. AAV is typically treated with glucocorticoids and immunosuppressive medications, divided into induction and maintenance phases. These therapies are unfortunately, associated with a high rate of serious adverse effects, including infections and malignancy. Many studies have therefore been conducted in the search for safer alternatives. In recent years, landmark studies on newer therapies have been published and clinical guidelines updated to reflect best practices regarding AAV treatment). In this symposium, clinical experts will navigate a patient case to explore the clinical presentations of this heterogenous systemic disease and to highlight state-of-the-art management strategies for optimizing patient outcomes.
