Medical Crossfire®: Are You Up to Date on Vaccinations? Incorporating Guideline-Based Care to Ensure Shingles Prevention in Your Patients

Release Date: October 26, 2020
Expiration Date: October 26, 2021

Activity Overview

This online, on-demand, virtual symposium brings together a renowned panel of experts who discuss the disease burden of shingles and review the efficacy data for the live and recombinant shingles vaccines. The lifetime incidence of shingles is 10% - 20%, and incidence rises with advancing age. While shingles has a relatively short disease duration, the risk of transmitting the varicella-zoster virus and causing chickenpox in household contacts and the risk of developing complications, such as postherpetic pain, add to the disease burden. In the primary care setting, it is important to recognize risk factors for the development of shingles in order to provide therapeutic plans based on patient age, comorbidities, and vaccination options. Patient case discussions are included to help identify important factors for vaccine administration and safety.

This educational activity is an archive of the live virtual symposium held on October 14, 2020.
