Activity Overview

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare, life-threatening thrombotic microangiopathy. In acquired TTP (aTTP), microthrombi form in small blood vessels throughout the body, causing hypoxia in organs including the brain, kidneys, and heart. The reported incidence of TTP is 2 to 6 cases per million per year, and the reported mortality is 10% to 20% with proper treatment. In recent years, a number of new therapeutic agents and regimens have been developed to properly manage aTTP requiring detailed guidance.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for hematologists and hematologist/oncologists who treat patients with aTTP. Fellows, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care professionals interested in the management of patients given a diagnosis of aTTP are also invited to participate.

  • Apply disease-specific tests to diagnose aTTP based upon clinical manifestations.
