Activity Overview

Community Practice Connections™: Onco-Nurse Academy™: 101 on CAR T-Cell Therapies provides case-based discussion of clinical data on the use of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells in patients with lymphoid malignancies. Interactive clinical vignettes are followed by short video interviews with leading experts in the management of patients with hematologic malignancies. The video interviews address decision points in the clinical vignettes, as well as questions commonly faced in the community oncology practice setting by healthcare professionals engaged in the use of CAR T cells.

  • Describe the unique features of CAR T-cell therapies’ mechanisms of action, and key considerations for their manufacture and delivery to patients with hematologic malignancies.
  • Evaluate clinical trial data on current and emerging CAR T-cell therapies and the implications for changing clinical practice.
  • Formulate a strategy for monitoring and mitigating adverse events specific to patients who receive CAR T-cell therapies.
  • Discuss the key role of nurses in counseling patients and caregivers on expectations during CAR T-cell therapy and improving patient care through communication with the patient and the multidisciplinary care team.
