At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
Identify common conditions in which fish oil (omega-3 fatty acids) has been shown to be beneficial
Differentiate among fish oil sources and products
Demonstrate knowledge of fish oil’s efficacy and safety when used at evidence-based doses
Characterize major barriers that prevent patients from using fish oil optimally and create strategies to overcome those barriers
Examine the importance of patient education and awareness in improving treatment outcomes
Table of Contents Description: With many people still not meeting dietary requirements of daily omega-3 fatty acids, healthcare professionals need to have knowledge on common conditions where omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial. They also need to know the different sources of omega-3 fatty acids, as well as safe and effective doses. In having this knowledge, the healthcare professionals will be able to help patients overcome any barriers that is preventing optimizing their health.
Statement of Need
Scientific data has demonstrated that omega-3 fatty acids are significant to good health and be protective in some diseases; however, intake of omega-3 fatty acids remains low. Healthcare professionals, such as nurse and physician assistants, are a great resource of information for patients.
Method of Participation
All participants will need to read the objectives and other introductory CME/CE information, take the pretest, and then proceed to the educational activity. Once the activity is completed along with the posttest and the evaluation, participants can request credit.
You will have access to your certificate immediately following completion of the evaluation. Credit is provided until 3/1/2018. No credit will be given after this date. There is no fee to participate in this activity.
