  • Differentiate among fish oil sources and products
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fish oil’s efficacy and safety when used at evidence-based doses
  • Characterize major barriers that prevent patients from using fish oil optimally and create strategies to overcome those barriers
  • Examine the importance of patient education and awareness in improving treatment outcomes
Table of Contents Description: With many people still not meeting dietary requirements of daily omega-3 fatty acids, healthcare professionals need to have knowledge on common conditions where omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial. They also need to know the different sources of omega-3 fatty acids, as well as safe and effective doses. In having this knowledge, the healthcare professionals will be able to help patients overcome any barriers that is preventing optimizing their health.
Statement of Need
Scientific data has demonstrated that omega-3 fatty acids are significant to good health and be protective in some diseases; however, intake of omega-3 fatty acids remains low. Healthcare professionals, such as nurse and physician assistants, are a great resource of information for patients.
