Overview

Developing hypoglycemia in diabetes is often a concern after the administration of anti-hyperglycemic therapy, which aim at raising insulin levels while lowering plasma glucose concentrations. Hypoglycemia, is therefore, a major barrier to initiating or intensifying antihyperglycemic therapy. During this live regional dinner series, expert faculty will discuss risk factors leading to hypoglycemia and examine the recent treatment recommendations for reversal of severe hypoglycemia in patients with diabetes.

Target Audience

This educational program is directed toward primary care providers in the US who treat patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus, including PCPs, NPs, and PAs.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better prepared to:

  • Recognize the risk and occurrence of hypoglycemia in "THE" management of patients with diabetes
  • Integrate new guideline recommendations in the prevention of hypoglycemic events into practice for patients with diabetes
  • Describe how patients at risk for severe hypoglycemic episodes and their caregivers can be counseled on how to use new hypoglycemic rescue products
  • Evaluate the efficacy and safety of newly approved and emerging therapeutic agents for severe hypoglycemic episodes to reduce fear and barriers associated with decisions to intensify dosing of antihyperglycemic therapies
