4th Annual Precision Medicine Through Plasma: Using Liquid Biopsies in Contemporary Oncology Care
Saturday, December 12, 2020
Scientific Session: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM EDT
The 4th Annual Precision Medicine Through Plasma: Using Liquid Biopsies in Contemporary Oncology Care will focus on liquid biopsy in cancer, and will cover some of the latest updates and current trends in the use of liquid biopsy for the management of patients with cancer. Liquid biopsy has changed the management of patients with lung cancer, breast cancer, and gastrointestinal cancers, and continues to evolve as liquid biopsy continues to prove its utility alongside direct tumoral biopsy. Liquid biopsy is a general term that refers to analysis of circulating tumor cells, cell-free DNA (cfDNA) sourced from plasma, serum, or other liquid material, as well as genetic material within exosomes. Multiple technologies and techniques with varying levels of sensitivity have been developed and continue to be developed across tumors. Multiple commercial assays are available and are in active clinical use. Understanding current applications and future directions, applying clinical evidence to individualize patient treatment, and understanding the relative advantages and capabilities of available testing technologies will be addressed in this innovative half-day program.
This educational activity is intended for medical oncologists, pathologists, and fellows who treat patients with cancer. Nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, researchers, and other health care professionals interested in the treatment of cancer will also be invited to participate.
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Assess the relative advantages of currently available liquid-based and tissue-based testing approaches
- Review the capabilities of currently available liquid biopsy technologies
- Appraise the utility of liquid biopsies for different cancers, including non–small cell lung cancer, breast cancer, and gastrointestinal cancers
- Apply clinical evidence on specific testing modalities that may help to individualize treatment protocols for patients with cancer
