Overview

Working Group to Optimize Outcomes in Myelofibrosis and Polycythemia Vera: Real-World Applications for Nurses is an interactive and dynamic symposium that will update oncology nurses on recent developments in the management of patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), including myelofibrosis (MF) and polycythemia vera (PV). By attending this meeting, you will learn key concepts in diagnosis and risk stratification, as well as therapeutic advances for patients with these malignancies. The expert faculty in this symposium will also inform you on the key role that oncology nurses play in coordinating the multidisciplinary care team to manage treatment-related adverse events and maximize treatment adherence. The case-based approach of this activity will help illustrate how you can apply best practices in your clinical practice. This educational program is directed toward all attendees of the 44th ONS Annual Congress, including nurses and other healthcare professionals with an interest in the treatment of hematologic malignancies.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:

  • Determine the differential presentations of MPNs and testing methods to stratify risk in patients with these hematologic malignancies
  • Describe key evidence from recent clinical trials concerning the management of MPNs
  • Place landmark findings from trials conducted in patients with MPNs into the context of discussions with patients about care they receive for these hematologic malignancies
  • Apply best nursing practices to effectively counsel patients with MPNs concerning treatment-related toxicities and management of disease-related symptoms
