Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells are immune cells that have been harvested from the blood of either the patient or a donor, and then modified to express engineered T-cell receptors specific for proteins common on the surface of cancer cells in order to target and kill the cancer cells. This program will provide information on the role of CAR T-cell therapy in treating patients with hematologic malignancies. The importance of a multidisciplinary team (eg, hematologist, nurse coordinator, infusion nurse, emergency medical team) will be discussed. The expert faculty will review recent and ongoing clinical trials evaluating the role of CAR T-cell therapy in patients with hematologic malignancies. Additionally, the faculty will discuss common and serious adverse events associated with CAR T-cell therapy and how to manage these side effects. An emphasis will be placed on the role of nurses in counseling and treating patients with CAR T-cell therapy in the context of hematologic malignancies. This will include optimizing care of these patients through symptom monitoring, dose optimization, treatment adherence, and management of treatment-related toxicities.

Benefits of attending:

By participating in this exciting program, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain knowledge of the mechanism of action of CAR T-cell therapy and how it can be used to treat patients with hematologic malignancies
  • Expand your knowledge of recent clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and safety of CAR T-cell treatment
  • Learn about the common and serious adverse events that can be associated with CAR T-cell therapy, and how to monitor and mitigate those adverse events
