Overview

The current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) health crisis has posed several challenges for oncologists who are caring for immunocompromised patients. Neutropenia is a complication of anticancer therapy, and new guideline recommendations are available for its management in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This live webcast features a panel of experts who will address the latest advances on the management of neutropenia in cancer care. The faculty will discuss various aspects of neutropenia including current treatments, new approaches to management, and the challenges that the COVID-19 crisis has imposed on the care of patients with neutropenia. They will share patient case scenarios commonly encountered in clinical practice and will provide the learners with practical methods to optimize health outcomes for patients experiencing neutropenia in the oncology setting.

Target Audience

This educational activity is directed toward medical oncologists, hematologists, fellows, surgical oncologists and radiation oncologists interested in treatment and management of patients with cancer. Nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, researchers, and other healthcare professionals interested in the treatment of cancer may also participate.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Determine patients with cancer at low-, intermediate-, and high-risk to develop neutropenia, including febrile neutropenia.
  • Discuss the impact of COVID-19 on neutropenia care for patients with cancer and updates made to current treatment guidelines in the context of management during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Discuss unmet gaps in the management of neutropenia and the role of emerging therapies to bridge those unmet clinical needs
  • Create proactive management plans focused on pretreatment against neutropenia, and approaches to treat patients when neutropenia occurs.
