Overview

COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving global public health threat that has affected virtually all aspects of patient care, including the treatment of patients with other acute and chronic diseases. The cause of COVID-19 is SARS-CoV-2, a β-coronavirus, which is an enveloped nonsegmented positive-sense RNA virus. Recent research efforts have focused on the development of vaccines, new antiviral agents, convalescent plasma infusions, and monoclonal antibodies for either the prevention or treatment of COVID-19. Neutralizing antibodies are a key component of protective immunity for most viral diseases, and neutralizing monoclonal antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 have the potential for both therapeutic and prophylactic applications. Neutralizing monoclonal antibodies directed against SARS-CoV-2 have been developed and are under investigation in clinical trials. In addition, 2 of these drugs have been recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and have been made available under FDA emergency use authorization (EUA).

This CME program will increase clinicians’ understanding of the use of neutralizing monoclonal antibodies in patients with COVID-19, including available therapeutic options, best practices for appropriate patient selection, and best practices for the administration of COVID-19 antibody infusions. The Medical Crossfire® format presents a panel of specialists from different subspecialties who can share their expert perspectives in a multidisciplinary approach to improving patient care.
