Over the past 2 decades, survival for patients with breast cancer has improved dramatically because of an increased understanding in the diverse genetic etiologies underlying the disease. Treatment strategies for these patients are now determined by hormone receptor status, HER2 expression status, or the presence/absence of BRCA mutations. However, primary or acquired resistance to endocrine therapies, HER2-directed agents, and PARP inhibitors remains a challenge, driving the need for novel, more effective targeted and combination therapies, such as PI3K inhibitors, bispecific antibodies, dual inhibitors, and antibody-drug conjugates. Given the complexity of genetic test information, it is critical to explore recent developments in oncogenic targeted therapies and appreciate the implications for breast cancer treatment.

Held in conjunction with the highly scientific programming of the 37th Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference®, Coffee Talk: Perspectives on PARP, HER2/3, and Emerging Oncogenic Targets in Breast Cancer Care is a live, educational event that will provide multiple perspectives on the topic in a conversational, easy-to-digest format. This activity will help healthcare professionals maintain a state-of-the-art clinical practice by providing expert guidance on the latest clinical data on PARP, HER2/3, and PI3K inhibitors, as well as potential applications of investigational oncogenic targeted therapies in breast cancer.

Benefits of Attending

  • Ask the experts how they might handle challenging clinical cases
  • Improve your knowledge about emerging oncogenic targets for treating breast cancer
  • Learn about the latest evidence on PARP, HER2/3, and PI3K inhibitors for the treatment of different types of breast cancer
  • Gain experts’ perspectives on best practices for mitigating adverse events related to targeted therapies for breast cancer treatment

Target Audience

This educational activity is directed toward medical oncologists who treat patients with breast cancer. Nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, researchers, and other healthcare professionals interested in the treatment of breast cancer will be invited to participate.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate the mechanistic rationale for developments in PARP inhibition, HER2/3 inhibition, and PI3K inhibition in breast cancer
  • Analyze targeted treatment strategies in appropriate patients with breast cancer based on patient characteristics and genetic markers
  • Recognize mechanisms of resistance in breast cancer and emerging strategies for management of resistance using combination strategies that include targeted therapies
  • Evaluate emerging roles for PARP inhibitors, HER2/3 inhibitors, and PI3K inhibitors in breast cancer based on ongoing clinical trials
