Show Me the Data™: Making Informed Treatment Decisions for Patients with Immune Thrombocytopenia

Show Me the Data™: Making Informed Treatment Decisions for Patients with Immune Thrombocytopenia

Tuesday, December 15, 2020

Live, Interactive Virtual Webcast!

8:00 PM – 10:00 PM EST

Overview

The clinical presentation and course of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is heterogeneous and variable in adults and also differs between children and adults. Advances in treatment strategies, including emerging therapies for adult and pediatric patients with ITP, raise challenging questions for oncologists and hematologists. Clinicians must be able to diagnose ITP, determine which patients will benefit from a treatment, and individualize treatment for each patient while minimizing treatment-associated toxicities.

Clinicians are challenged to put new information into clinical context, as they are often not up-to-date with the latest data from clinical studies, leading to delays in adopting evidence-driven changes in treatment options and patient-management strategies. Educational activities that update oncologists and hematologists on new information and advances in treatment strategies and provide guidance on integrating these advances into their practice are necessary to optimize care for individual patients. At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to identify patients with ITP who need treatment, evaluate recent clinical data for approved and investigational treatments, and apply current clinical recommendations for the management of ITP.

Target Audience

This educational activity is directed toward hematologists, hematology-oncologists, pathologists, and other oncology health care professionals who treat patients with ITP. Hematologists, hematology-oncologists, pathologists, and other oncology health care professionals, as well as other health care professionals interested in the treatment of ITP are also invited to participate.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the pathophysiology underlying chronic ITP that has led to the development of targeted therapy
  • Outline diagnostic recommendations for ITP and strategies to differentiate ITP from other disorders with similar presentation
  • Consider recent clinical data of efficacy and safety profiles of current and emerging therapeutic strategies for ITP treatment
  • Integrate recent evidence to inform personalized clinical decision-making in the management of ITP

Benefits of Attending

  • Understand the roles of the health care team when diagnosing ITP
  • Get updates on the importance of personalizing treatment, including addressing patient concerns
  • Review first- and second-line therapeutic choices for ITP
  • Explore emerging therapies and recent clinical trial data in patients with ITP
