A rare lysosomal storage disease, chronic acid sphingomyelinase deficiency (ASMD) is associated with significant physical and psychosocial burden of illness. Importantly, knowledge about ASMD is evolving and more evidence and expertise is being accrued about how this disorder affects patients across the disease spectrum. This online, on-demand activity brings together a renowned group of experts in the management of lysosomal storage diseases who will discuss best practices and new insights for improving disease recognition, timely diagnosis, and appropriate treatment. This educational program is directed toward medical genetics specialists, genetic counselors, pediatricians, pulmonologists, hematologists, hepatologists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, and other clinicians involved in the diagnosis and management of ASMD.

  • Identify ASMD based on characteristic signs, symptoms, and genetic findings
  • Discuss the appropriate symptom-directed management of disease manifestations associated with ASMD
  • Describe recent data supporting the role of enzyme replacement therapy as disease-directed therapy for chronic ASMD
  • Select appropriate evidence-based management strategies for patients with ASMD based on individual goals and preferences
